I know it's been weeks since the final chapter came out but I can't get over how much Izuku and Katsuki's relationship objectively drove the story from start to finish, they don't want to exist without each other and they got the happy ending that was ripped away from another pair that All For One heavily projected onto: Yoichi and Kudo(I personally read that as a big brother not approving of how his younger brother chose to run away to be with another man, and how he chased after and killed both of them for it. You know like an older sibling not approving of their kid sibling's dating life).

Genuinely insane that their bond is the entire backbone of the story. Like, that's objectively correct. Even in the times before they were alive, there was a bkdk equivalent setting up the lore.

You can call it rivalries or hope or idealism or heroic spirit or whatever but we all know what this is, it's LOVE

Still mad we aren't getting Bakugou v AFO until next season because that freakout confusing Katsuki for Kudou is the funniest shit AFO has done. Starting with the most recent episode we have officially reached the "clowning on AFO" stage of the war and I love it.

(Or: I have finally processed that BNHA 431 exists and stopped laughing about it in favour of actual critical thinking)

(Or: or: A mid-ass manga ending that somehow pissed me off enough I can't stop thinking about it months after got more pages and none fo them amused me more at who knows O'Clock god I need a new hyperfixation)

"Turn off the cameras", "three endings", my ass, you just didn't want KT/IZ shippers breaking down on your doorstep.

Idk, I've laughed on the day because of how ridiculously worse it got (and maybe that was a cry for help because I don't want to be in the building anymore), but something really, really bitter in my mouth to hear the author said "nah this last chapter ain't mine, just an optional extra" after the ship wars over KTIZ and HMCK vs. IZCH makes me hit my head so much. Which isn't to say you shouldn't care about it, mourn it in disappointment, pop the bottles and celebrate, that's your right.

(I don't feel strongly about either, but. Congratulations to y'all IZCH fans, and for HMCK fans, you deserved better.)

But I'm a little bit frustrated that the story could've chosen to do something for the villains, like bringing them closure, show they've been vindicated by the Saviour Trio, have something significant in the system change in their name... but apparently it was more compelling to make IZ/CH canon than actually do something about the LOV.

(because let's be honest entertaining 4-6yo children into playing with their Quirks for a month and dipping doesn't replace therapy or calling child services no matter how much Ochako wants to believe it somehow does.)

Idk, Himiko being used to reinforce IZ/CH for the second time in a row (bury your gays for a F/M relationship), Touya getting 1 panel after getting his moment taken over by Endeavor in his last chapter ("Bad" Victim dies slowly and painfully but who cares), Tomura's last words being used so Deku can get together with his highschool crush (how do I even qualify this one???), Spinner got an extra illustration of him sadly brainstorming a comic, Kurogiri, Mr. Compress and Twice got nothing... and AFO still gets to be right while none of the characters have a single cell of self-awareness the story has that this ending just doesn't connect to the rest of it all.

And I'm supposed to just. Care about whatever the fuck Deku's doing? Fine, here's my thoughts: I wished Katsuki and Kirishima crashed the car so I wouldn't see that empty shell of my former favourite character smiling at the end. Alas, my MC fully flatlined the second punching OFA to Tomura was a thing and I regret ignoring that sign. I tried to be nice before when I posted my thoughts for 430, hell, I held out hope for every epilogue chapter, but now, the hopeful superhero manga, you gave me this: REGRET FOR HAVING HOPES UNTIL THE END.

I still prefer to try and ignore canon, especially after spending... What, May to August hoping the LoV would turn out to be miraculously alive, only to get that ripped to shreds and still be mad about it months after (and I've never been this fucking angry about a shit finale). It's just irritating, these extra pages could've been a way to show the villains actually impacted the hero society.

And instead all we get is a job rejection treated as a breakup, a push from the canonically bi character to the implied romantic F/M handshake that's gonna fuel the ship wars for the next month. Meanwhile the actual criticism about the villains being reduced to one panel + ship fuel will continue to be ignored because Izuku isn't having sex w/ Katsuki in the car and dudebros refuse to admit even that's a stupid way to fulfill "hero gets the girl".

(I have my issues w/ that but it boils down to:

Neither Tomura or Katsuki impact Final War!Izuku because all they served for was to elevate him w/o getting anything in return. But:

Tomura died for real for and continues to be dehumanized in-universe, there's no signs people like him are being truly helped and AFO still gets the upper hand because both died together, rendering his storyline pointless, and since the LoV is in jail/dead he can't even be given justice because Izuku's a teacher in UA, a place where no one like Tomura will ever be;

Katsuki's whole reason for development got rejected by Izuku and his goals are treated obsolete (because abuse, poverty, homelessness and war don't exist anymore according to BNHA I guess) at best and as a child's dream at worst.

Honestly my takeaway: BKDK/DKBK fans and League of Villains Stans can't see eye to eye because while both got done dirty, it's an unfair comparison, because w/ the ship goggles off: Katsuki still gets to live and find out what he wants, while The LOV gets forgotten by the story as characters.)

But I can say it was in character for 422-430 Izuku. I mean, killing a guy and proceeding to never think about it is in character with making another one waste eight years for a dream that was never gonna happen.* I guess "not being the author's chapter" makes it alright for almost everyone else though. Whatever, at least Tomura, Himiko and Touya can't be done even more dirty than this, Shoto got an actual good ending and is finally chilling in his life and Katsuki's getting an IRL statue since the manga hates its main cashcow (I don't like the billboards existence, it literally caused half of everyone's problems in the story CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH: TODOROKI TOUYA'S LIFE GOT RUINED FOR THIS but if I'm supposed to care: Katsuki's Nº 15, really, man? When Endeavor was Nº2?) I guess.

*Seriously now, fandom's proving why a timeskip in BNHA was never gonna be a good idea: yes it's OOC Izuku would reject Katsuki like that... If he was the 16 year old Izuku who actually gave a fuck about saving people and being a hero no matter how. It picked realism over the themes, and this is the end result. It's not unnatural or anything, it's just what happens when you got a last-minute timeskip this huge: You miss on character development and it feels sudden, this is how we get the fandom in-fighting. In eight years he changed careers, if he doesn't want to be a full time hero, then he doesn't, and considering how the other option turned out for Tomura or Tenko or whatever you call him atp, I'm sorry but for me it's a relieved "thank fuck" which means the chances of another's guy getting killed by him are lower.

But hey. Who the fuck cares, the ships are the most important part of this, right? I mean, I'd take it if the LoV was alive and I'd stop feeling rage at the main character, but again. Who cares?

... I swear I don't want to hate the ending but fuck's sake I just wanted the story to mean something.

Whatever, it's over, all of that is canon because unfortunately it's on the published paper for the entire audience to see and a "oh it's optional" can never change the fact it's in the main storyline.

And yet: I still hate the ending, not gonna stop shipping the stuff I ship, and *grabbing Midoriya Izuku pre-412 by the neck* I've already been in a river of denial where LoV is still alive so Tomura, Spinner, Himiko, Touya and Mr. Compress get to truly live, thriving and Izuku and Katsuki bring about the beginning of a new era for a reformed hero society, where the hero billboard concept as a whole is out, heroes are more social workers and than celebrity cops and we get to see it, instead of stopping at installing a one-month babysitting program for kindergardeners and saying "FIXED". This chapter changes jackshit about it, if anything it reinforces that resolve.

With that said: "Story of how I become the world's greatest hero" Midoriya shut the fuck up and just pay up the money wasted by twenty people on that suit since you're not even gonna commit to it, you useless empty shell.

im going to say something that might be surprising coming from me: if hori decided to make izu///ocha happen, I wouldnt be angry, and I could see why it could make sense for the story.

I personally dont think izu///ocha will happen and see their "romantic moments" as platonic/not focused on them as a couple, but if he were to make them happen I wont go around saying how the manga is pure trash and that he cant write anything.

These past weeks many stans of some characters have been dominating the general tags with doom posting and being mean, mainly because the ideas they were sure would happen in the manga were broken and denied, and I dont think we should do that if we end up in a similar position. Dont get me wrong, I would "mourn" that ending because I see the potential and the way the characters need something else to be fulfilled -I dont see how Izuku would fulfill anything with that, and Ochako's character would regress.

We still need to be respectful and not forget all the things we have enjoyed just because we dont get all the things we wanted -some of us criticize this about other parts of the fandom, so lets do our best to learn from those things.

As a bkdk and togachako, I would be heartbroken. As a reader, I would be confused and bored -in any case, if he ends up adding some sort of dramatic confession, I could appreciate a cute dialogue and drawing. Im not going to talk shit about the manga that has been a part of my life for such a long time just because there are decisions I cant enjoy.

When I say I can see how it would make sense I dont mean it as in well written, but as in "yeah, a shonen. They blushed, he thought about her words to remember he can try to save Shigaraki, and she said she fell in love with him". I can see how it could become canon, but there isnt much going on that would make me be happy or interested in them together at all -when I say theres no drama going on with them, its meant to be interpreted as "I dont see any romantic tension, or way this could further the plot nor serve the characters. This is mainly to have a classic shonen ending, not because the story needs it from my point of view".

Im not going to bully someone or wish the characters died tho. And I think others shouldn't either.

OK. does anyone else feel irritated that eng dub seems to be favoured in mha? in edits, in fics, it's clear most people watched dub and idk it's been rlly grinding my gears.

okay, to get this out the way, I don't like mha's eng dub. I don't like any of them. half don't fit their characters, 75% of the time the tone lands forced and awkward, and its literally just unbearable for me to watch I'm sorry. I have this issue with a lot of anime and cartoons so this isn't solely a my hero problem, but this is definitely the most severely I've disliked a dub. and yet I cannot escape it.

one of my biggest issues is the nuance that's lost in translation. anyone with any familiarity with the Japanese language will know what I mean. list of examples:

HONORIFICS

1. iida refers to class 1-A with '-kun'

2. yaoyorozu refers to class 1-A with '-san'

3. asui refers to class 1-A with '-chan'

3. deku with '-kun' (m) & '-san' (f)

that says SO MUCH about their characters, how they view their relationships, how they view themselves,, but in dub?? all of that's lost. ESP the significance of deku still calling bkg 'kacchan'. [simplified, '-chan' is used for cute/endearing things. it stemmed from children mispronouncing '-san', and became a childish, cutesy way of calling someone, usually someone you're VERY familiar with. it implies a shocking ammount of intimacy] thru years of bullying, all the rocks and straight up non existent road of their relationship, deku STILL calls him 'kacchan', the ONLY one allowed to do so ("but kaminari--" NEENAWNEENAWNEENAW).

in eng dub it gets reduced to a mere nickname, lacking all of its weight.

the most recent example is when bkg says "of course you pulled it off, Icyhot." (I forgot the context tho) in sub, he says "of course you pulled it off, TODOROKI".

THATS SUCH A NICHE, SUBTLE WAY OF SHOWING HIS DEVELOPMENT THATS TOSSED STRAIGHT OUT THE WINDOW. translation (manga) also has him calling his seniors 'senpai' which is... not what he says in sub????? 'senpai' indicates respect for someone your senior,,,, which. bkg would never show. (or only in EXTREMELY rare cases, MAYBE)

there's also my peeve abt names. this may be an only me issue, but I don't like it when japanese names are written in western format (e.g Izuku Midoriya)... ("this guy cannot be fr rn" unfortunately yes I am). I don't have a reason for this, and I'm aware it's niche and irrational, but I always cringe a little when I'm reading a fic, that's SET IN JAPAN, and their names are written Given Name, Family Name. emphasis on SET IN JAPAN. THEY ARE JAPANESE. THEY ARE NOT AMERICAN.

bkg's hero name. his og one which was translated to King Explosion Murder, losing all of the wit and cleverness in the jp original. this post goes into more detail and is very cool check it out

I've gotten off point. point is I WISH MORE PEOPLE APPRECIATED AND WATCHED IN JP SUB. IM SCREAMING INTO THE VOID AND MY OWN VOICE IS ECHOING BACK I CANT DO THIS ANYMORE.

(note: jjk was my first anime fandom so I'm probably spoiled. over there, sub seems to be favoured, barring a few iconic lines [ray chase lwk served as sukuna in the shibuya arc] and the fics, like 70% of the ones I read, used japanese honorifics and culture. in comparison, mha was a bit of a shock. the side of the fandom I washed up on is so... American??? maybe I'm in the wrong place idk. everything's just extremely white and slightly uncomfortable.)

"problematic ships" has always been a funny concept to me like ig its the hannigram shipper in me cuz compared to those two the ships ppl call problematic are hilariously tame. I recall ppl on here freeeeeaking out about the arcane lesbians bc one hit the other in a fight (before they were dating even iirc) & bc of the power imbalance inherent to the ship, so ppl were shitting themselves & crying over abuse. yeah thatd be pretty unhealthy if it were real. it's not tho. bkdk another classic example. don't care about that series but the disk horse abt how liking it is evil bc one of them bullied the other in MIDDLE SCHOOL was peak comedy

This thought had been in my head before, and I didn't think about making a post about it till I saw a really dumb post I disagreed with.

Once again talking about Izuku having a crush on Ochako, while acting as if Izuku is an average shounen protag like all the others. Except for one thing...

While it can be stated that Izuku did at one point have a crush on Uraraka, and I'm not gonna dispute that, many have already pointed out how Izuku very quickly gets over it the more time he spends at U.A. And all of this is true, but there's one thing I haven't seen anyone point out yet and that's that all of Izuku's moments where we see him crushing on Ochako I treated like a gag.

There's a lot of moments from the earlier parts of the series so I didn't grab them all. But I'm gonna use some to make my case here.

this is literally the first panel where we see this happen, and right off it comes across less like a crush and more like...actually I don't know how to even describe that face...

But the point is that it doesn't really seem like the face of someone who's flustered (especially because we see Izuku get flustered at multiple other points and it looks nothing like this-), and he's barely blushing at all in this. The way that this scene is made, makes it seem like you're meant to treat this in jest. "Oh a teen boy having a crush on a girl, just a boy being a boy!" Yes. A boy being a boy. A teen boy who was previously bullied and ostracized by all his peers and who's only interaction with the opposite sex would have been his mom. I can't imagine why he's having this reaction. Anyways.

Okay now Izuku is flustered...but it's because of personal space? Not the girl in front of you? Huh. Okay. This happens again btw, during the first OVA (I think), where Uraraka in her excitement at being paired up with Izuku ends up in his personal space without consideration for his boundaries.

This continues on sparsely throughout random points in the story, until they just...stop. Completely. And this interesting, because every other time regarding IzuOcha specifically focuses on Uraraka and her feelings about Izuku. And it's never treated as a joke. Whereas with Izuku, you're meant to find it funny, but never highly important, or warranting you're full attention. It's just something that I find interesting, especially when you take into consideration how this parallels KiriMina and KamiJirou, and how for both boys and their feelings toward their respective love interests their feelings are treated again, with weight.

And like I said, Uraraka's emotions are treated seriously. We're given multiple moments to see her contemplate on this stuff. But never Izuku. Why? Because he's not important, it was always gonna be one-sided thing between them, imo I don't think, even if bkdk was never meant to be a thing, that Hori ever intended for this to be a deep, meaningful relationship between these two. That it was always never gonna happen. That's my two cents tho.

They played for another 30 minutes but made no success. Round after round, they only got worse. The highest place they were able to make was 40th. They yelled at each other a lot and it was surprising that they didn't wake up any of their classmates.

"Kacchan I think we just need to thank the bus driver. That's probably why we were losing" Midoriya said

"Yeah you're right Izuku. I think that was the issue."

They both thanked the bus driver and managed to get a victory Royale. After winning they hit the girddy on their opps

"We goated fr! I carried!" Bakugou yelled in celebration

"You carried?! That is not what happened! I had to revive you at least 100 times each round!" Midoriya yelled

"Okay but I got the kills!"

"You had stolen all my kills!"
